Summary
Building a community of 500+ students to learn about careers in social-impact sectors
Roles
Co-Founder and Head of Design
Duration
March 2021 to March 2023

The Opportunity
🚨 When it comes to pursuing careers in social impact, students face preconceived notions that deter them from entering the field. Currently, there are no resources for those that aim to challenge this.
Solution
💡 Impact Fellows serves as an educational community for students and recent graduates who are pursuing purpose-driven careers.
This includes access to our community Slack, job postings, newsletters, resource hubs, and more!
Students face many misconceptions about pursuing a career in social impact including
“You can’t make money in social impact”
“The only way to make an impact is through nonprofit work or CSR”
“You shouldn’t work in social impact directly after graduation”
Although I was able to dispel these myths through the help of mentors and friends, many others don’t have the support system to push past these barriers.
HMW convince students to spend time exploring a new area of interest?
HMW create a pre-professional environment without compromising approachability?
HMW create a website and brand that communicates our credibility and story?
Website Design
When it came to our website, I wanted to prioritize three values: simplicity, credibility, and optionality.
I wanted to guide the user (literally) through quick tidbits of information so they would feel intrigued enough to sign up for our initiatives without feeling overwhelmed.
Thus, the landing page provides short descriptors of our offerings before being prompted to sign up. If they need more information, they are able to navigate to both an "About" page and an "Initiatives" page that gives more details.
Brand Identity
For a new initiative like ours, establishing a recognizable and distinct brand was extremely important to our reputation.
Our logo is a plane to signify growth. The three specks communicate movement and are used across all assets.
We wanted to use 3D icons to illustrate our initiatives.
I chose varying shades of green for our core palette because of its association with sustainability.
Marketing Assets
When designing our marketing assets and social media posts, I wanted our brand's personality to be consistent throughout even if I wasn’t the one running Marketing. I created assets and templates that anyone on our team could use easily.
As someone passionate about impact-oriented professions, I learned so much about what it takes to act on an idea. I was able to gain hands-on experience scaling an idea and expanding it.
Here are a few things we accomplished in just six months:
Amassed over 1,000 followers on Instagram
Recruited 6 other individuals to join our Executive Team
